ARE THE CLASSES SUITABLE FOR BEGINNERS? Our yoga classes are designed for all ability levels. Each yoga posture has several modifications designed for individual needs and body types. Yoga is not only a physical exercise, but also a method of bringing life and vitality into the deeper parts of our bodies and ourselves.
HOW MANY CLASSES ARE THERE? We currently offer two yoga classes per week: on Wednesday evenings from 6.15-7.15pm; and on Saturday mornings from 11.30am-12.30pm (see the Class Schedule for details).
WHAT IS ASHTANGA YOGA? The 5,000 year-old practice of Ashtanga yoga is a strong, flowing practice that emphasizes the movement of the body with the breath. Ashtanga is a dynamic and aerobic, moving meditation. The postures, combined with the breath, cleanse and stregthen the body. The breath oxygenates the blood, helps circulation and brings more blood to the brain, maximizing clear thinking and full creativity while calming and centering the mind. Ashtanga de-stresses and reshapes the body by correctly aligining the spine, therefore counteracting the aging process. The practice induces the elimination of toxins and purifies the body. It serves as a path to health, flexibility, strength, and balance through concentration. With regular yoga practice, you will experience increased suppleness and flexibility, decreased mental tension, and the heightened level of health and wellbeing that yoga has to offer.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? HRK students can buy a ten class card for only $50.00, or a 5 class card for just $30.00. They can also pay $7.00 for a drop-in class. Non-HRK students pay $12.00 per class.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED? You should wear loose comfortable clothing, such as sweats or shorts, and a tee shirt or vest. You will work out barefoot.
