ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR SVI PETERS

Svi2
In early 1999, Svi Peters went looking for a martial arts school in Marin to keep his physical fix quenched when the surf wasn't doing it. He started training at the Hwa Rang Kwan studio in San Rafael, where he also learned the basics of the art of Hapkido.

Upon moving to San Francisco, he made the switch to the 5th Street Hwa Rang Kwan studio, and has been there ever since.

Over the years he has participated in various Olympic style Taekwondo tournaments, and placed in all of them. Sparring is one of his favorite aspects of Taekwondo training.

He has recently taken an interest in Muay Thai kickboxing and started to train with Kenya Prach, with the goal of getting in the ring and competing. "For me it is like being a white belt again," he says, "a feeling that I enjoy, both exciting and humbling. I feel as with anything else it is important to continually push oneself in the martial arts; if you are too comfortable and think you know everything, you are not trying hard enough. There is always more to learn."

When not at the dojang, Svi can be found building houses, working on his newly purchased house, surfing, snowboarding, camping, traveling and trying to have a social life.
