PRESIDENT: GRAND MASTER D. K. SHINGrand Master D. K. Shin, the founder and President of Hwa Rang Kwan, has spent over 50 years studying and teaching martial arts. A 9th Dan black belt in both Taekwondo and Hapkido, he is one of the founders of Taekwondo in Vietnam. His training includes Taekwondo, Hapkido, Kumdo, and some Chinese martial arts. As a combat instructor, Grand Master Shin was responsible for training the renowned Korean Tiger Division, the Green Berets, the Jungle Ranger School in Vietnam, and divisions of the U.S. army.
Grand Master Shin is known to his students as
Wonsanim. This honorific means
Head of the Circle, reflecting his belief that Hwa Rang Kwan is akin to a family circle. This is reflected in the friendly family atmosphere at Hwa Rang Kwan schools.
Since 2001 Grand Master Shin has been the Head Instructor of the
Hwa Rang Kwan school in Redwood City.
