SENIOR INSTRUCTOR ESTHER HONDA

Esther began her boxing, wrestling, and sparring practice in preschool under the tutelage of her much bigger brother back in the 70s. She began her Taekwondo practice along with her husband Erik under Master Walter Eichner in 1992, and they earned their first dan together in 2002. She has been a happy member of the Hwa Rang Kwan community since 2003, and earned her second dan from Master Rapport and Master Shin in 2004.

Esther enjoys practicing and teaching Taekwondo basics, in particular finding ways those basics reinforce more advanced techniques in poomse, sparring, and self-defense. In addition to those elements of the art (and to sitting in a low horse stance for a long, long time), Esther enjoys her day job. She has been a public elementary and middle school teacher for over 15 years, currently serving as the school librarian and computer lab teacher at Rosa Parks Elementary School in San Francisco.  Both her children have experienced Taekwondo since conception and continue their practice at Hwa Rang Kwan. She is proud to have her entire family training in Taekwondo!

Esther was promoted to 3rd Dan, and to Senior Instructor, in June 2009.
