INSTRUCTOR TOM BEYER

Prior to 1998, Tom Beyer had no martial arts training excluding working the door at a nightclub on Broadway and Kearny. One fine summer day Tom was well into his training regime that at that time consisted of a full day of Power Lounging supplemented with a high sodium, high fat, single malt stacking program when his roommate came home and announced that he was planning on taking a Kickboxing class and asked Tom to accompany him so he would have a friend in class.

Initially Tom opined that they weren't really friends and said no thank you. The roommate then pointed out that Kickboxing is a great work out and that in a few months the Budweiser tumor that was rapidly growing on the front of Tom's torso would become completely inoperable.

This was serious. Tom either had to lose some weight or start watching NASCAR. Brushing the remnants of Cheetos crumbs from his chest, and prying himself from his life long soul mate, the sofa, he traveled into the heart of the Mission and took his first Kickboxing class. He was hooked from day one. He had finally found a work out routine that he enjoyed. In less than a year the Budweiser tumor had gone into complete remission and was replaced by acute swelling in the shoulders, chest, and arms.

Tom started competing at the end of that year and placed at every Muay Thai/Kickboxing tournament he entered. These days Tom does not compete, but continues to study and teach Muay Thai and Western boxing. Tom's classes are on Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30-7:30pm.
